The University of Tennessee Police Department is at the heart of safety on campus. Authorized for 75 fully commissioned officers, we work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to serve UT and the surrounding community. We provide professional police services and offer education and outreach programs.

UTPD is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.

These accreditations demonstrate the department’s high standards and commitment to promoting student safety and accountability through programming, information sharing and cooperation.

Public Notice:

UTPD is scheduled for an accreditation on-site assessment March 30 – April 3, 2026.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, university employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments on the Accreditation Public Comment Portal located here: http://cimrs2.calea.org/884

The purpose of this public portal is to provide an opportunity to submit comments, commendations, and other information regarding the department’s quality of service or other information relevant to the accreditation process directly to CALEA.
