Booze It & Lose It

Alcohol is a factor in 35 percent of crashes in the United States. This national campaign, adopted by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO), focuses on reducing impaired driving and its effects, such as injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses. “Booze It & Lose It” utilizes public service messages and increased law enforcement efforts to accomplish its goal. The UTPD understands the dangers of drinking and driving and participates in this campaign to help reduce the risks to our university community.

Every hour, at least one person in the United States dies because they didn’t buckle up. Failure to use a seat belt contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety-related behavior. More than 70 percent of vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Tennessee were not wearing seat belts. The UTPD participates with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign to help educate our community on the necessity of using seat belts.
