TCA 39-17-1309 & Campus Concealed Carry
Pursuant to TCA 39-17-1309 it is a felony offense for any person to carry a weapon on university property. This applies even to individuals who possess a valid Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. Staff and faculty who possess these permits are NOT authorized to carry a weapon on any university-owned or controlled property, unless the staff or faculty member meets all of the requirements set forth in the Campus Concealed Carry Law.
The student handbook prohibits “possessing, carrying, using, storing, or manufacturing any weapon on University controlled property or in connection with a University affiliated activity, unless authorized in writing by the Chief of Police or their designee or unless federal or state law affirmatively gives a student a right, irrespective of the Code, to possess or carry a weapon on University-controlled property or in connection with a University-affiliated activity.”
