The UAS will not be operated:
- In a manner that violates UT System policy, including without limitation, violating federal, state, or local laws or regulations.
- TCA 39-13-903 prohibits UAS operations to intentionally capture images or drop any substance for open-air ticketed events of more than 100 people gathered without the venue operator’s approval.
- Inside University buildings or facilities unless specifically authorized by the UAS coordinator.
- In violation of an FAA Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR), normally associated with a large campus event.
- In a manner that substantially disrupts or interferes with University operations, events, or activities.
- In a manner or in a place that unreasonably threatens the health or safety of another person.
- In a manner that monitors or records an area where a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy.
- In a manner or in a place that unreasonably threatens damage to University property.
All UAS devices:
- Must give way to manned aircraft at all times.
- Must not be flown above the approved FAA altitude as provided by the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC).
- If there is a risk of flying over people, pilot must abide by FAA categorical operations.
- Must be operated in the line of sight and with visible lights (for 3 nautical miles) at night.

NOTE: The University’s main campus is within five (5) miles of an airport (Downtown Island Airport) and within two (2) miles of three (3) different heliports (University of Tennessee Medical Center Heliport, Physicians Medical Regional Center Heliport, and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Heliport).
