The UT Police Department has been investigating a rash of catalytic converter thefts on and around campus over the last month.<\/p>\n
Since the start of the spring semester, catalytic converters have been stolen from vehicles, specifically Hondas and Toyotas.<\/p>\n
UTPD investigators believe an increase in metal prices for materials such as palladium and platinum is driving these thefts. Many of these thefts have occurred in surface parking lots.<\/p>\n
UT Police would like to offer these tips to the campus community:<\/p>\n
–Park in a well-lit areas or lots<\/p>\n
–Park close to building entrances, sidewalks or near roadways where your vehicle is more visible to the public<\/p>\n
–Park in a garage if possible<\/p>\n
–Check on your vehicle more frequently<\/p>\n
–Report suspicious activity or people to police<\/p>\n
