For the third consecutive year, UT Police Department officers have embraced not shaving to benefit area organizations.<\/p>\n

The stakes to participate in the No Shave November and Double Down December challenges were higher this year\u2014a $50 donation for November and $100 for December.<\/p>\n

The $2,700 proceeds from the No Shave events, combined with an additional $600 in donations from members of the UT Public Safety\/UTPD family have raised a total of $3,300 for East Tennessee Children\u2019s Hospital and Courage to Conquer Cancer.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, UTPD officers presented $1,650 apiece to the organizations.<\/p>\n

East Tennessee Children\u2019s Hospital<\/a> is a 152-bed pediatric medical center that serves children from 16 East Tennessee counties and children from Southeast Kentucky and Southwest Virginia.<\/p>\n

In addition to the monetary funds, UTPD officers also delivered a haul of new toys to the hospital. During the holiday season, UTPD collects these toys for the children receiving care at the hospital.<\/p>\n

Courage to Conquer Cancer<\/a> helps women recover comfortably after surgery by providing post-surgical mastectomy kits, care packages, flowers, and other support free of charge. The organization also conducts ongoing health education activities. Courage of Conquer Cancer serves women in a 16-county region, including Knox County. It also serves women in Texas.<\/p>\n

Kristi James, the organization\u2019s president, noted that the funds from UTPD would provide post-surgical mastectomy supplies to 28 breast cancer patients in East Tennessee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
