To achieve this goal, we use a combination of police patrol, community service officers, and a comprehensive crime prevention program; however, it is unrealistic to assume that a staff of approximately 100 people can address every conceivable safety concern. As a member of the campus community, your participation is invaluable in assuring your safety and the safety of others.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Tennessee has taken a number of initiatives to promote a safer campus area. The UTPD Community Relations Unit (CRU) provides crime prevention programs at no cost on subjects such as personal safety, substance abuse, DUI, and Rape Aggression Defense. Our community service officers are able to provide vehicle boosts of your vehicle if needed, when staffing allows. The \u201cT\u201d bus service is available for transportation during the hours of darkness to allow students the option of not walking alone.<\/p>\n<p>The university uses and promotes a Public Safety App, which is Safe at UT, which provides access to campus resources and services.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safe at UT Features\n<ul>\n<li>Use your smartphone contacts to invite friends and family to \u201cwalk\u201d (or drive) with you virtually<\/li>\n<li>Place an emergency call to the nearest 911\u2014no matter where you are<\/li>\n<li>Reach UT Police via emergency call or text<\/li>\n<li>Live Chat with UT Dispatch<\/li>\n<li>Use the Mobile Blue Alert, turning your own device into a blue phone<\/li>\n<li>Report an incident to a variety of campus offices<\/li>\n<li>Access important resources like emergency procedures and the safety map<\/li>\n<li>Report suspicious activity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The university has a comprehensive Emergency Management Plan that encompasses planning for incidents such as a pandemic outbreak, criminal activity, or a natural disaster. The UT Alert System is designed for students, staff, and faculty to be notified immediately by text message of an ongoing or active threat on campus. This program is optional, and community members must opt in to receive messages.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, UT has developed a missing student protocol to aid in the response for reported missing students.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/safety.utk.edu\/police\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2013\/01\/Missing-Student-Protocol.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">View the protocol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All of these services and more are made available to you by UT and the UTPD.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Take the time to secure your property and lock your doors<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of your surroundings and avoid unsafe shortcuts<\/li>\n<li>Contact the UTPD immediately if you encounter a suspicious person on campus or report it through LiveSafe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These simple steps are all designed to lessen the likelihood of you becoming the victim of a crime.
