Motor Vehicle Thefts and Burglaries on Campus

The UT Police Department has been investigating a rash of motor vehicle thefts and burglaries on campus over the last two weeks.

Since late September, four vehicle thefts have occurred, three of which were Jeeps. Additionally, UTPD has been notified of at least 10 vehicle burglaries. A majority of the vehicle thefts and burglaries occurred in garages.

UT Police would like to offer these tips to help prevent vehicle thefts and burglaries:

*Lock your car

*Take your keys with you

*Close and lock all windows and doors when you park

*Never leave your vehicle while it is running

*Remove or hide all valuables from plain view

We urge the Volunteer community to remain aware and report any suspicious activity in and around parking lots and garages. Contact UTPD at 865-974-3114 or e-mail us at utpolice@utk.edu.

Stay informed about crime in your area on campus by following UTPD on Twitter @UTPolice or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/UTKPD.
